What’s a funny thing that has happened in ministry?
One time I was preaching so passionately that I mispronounced a word. I can’t remember what I said, but it was so different that the whole crowd burst out in laughter in the middle of Bible study. It was a good icebreaker, though!
What would you say to someone new to Gospel Advancing?
Welcome to the squad! Think of it like joining the Avengers, except our superpowers are the Gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit. You might be tempted to think it’s more about those you reach with the Gospel. But in my experience, Gospel Advancing has caused me to grow in leaps and bounds. My faith has deepened, my convictions have cemented, and my clarity for the Gospel keeps growing. Gospel Advancing has its fair share of challenges, but it’s the challenges that grow you.
What’s a challenge you’ve faced in your ministry, and how did you overcome it?
Ministry support-raising is a wild frontier that’s new and challenging in our African context. When I reached out to one family member for support, she told me: “Work in my shop, and stop asking people for money. You’re embarrassing yourself.” To overcome this challenge, I remember why I’m a missionary. I pray to the Lord of the Harvest and share ministry reports to encourage and mobilize those around me. I must say, God is faithful.
What keeps you motivated?
The more I understand my need for Christ, the more I want others to know Him. How could I live without Christ? Watching lives change because of the Gospel has to be the most fulfilling thing in the world. Recently, I accompanied a student I’m discipling to share the Gospel at her high school. Watching her teach the Gospel with simplicity and clarity made me emotional. It was beautiful. The Lord is certainly raising remnants among the next generation.
