Sabrina Epou is a spoken word artist who went from performing for 5 individuals in her youth pastors office to 12,000 plus in arenas, in what was almost an overnight occurrence. Her participation in an A/G National Fine Arts competition served as the catalyst to her bringing spoken word to various stages.
An African Native, born in Togo, Sabrina and her family came to the U.S and settled in St. Paul Minnesota with only having known her two native languages and hence needing to learn English starting from the basics. She went to an art school in her elementary years and grew fond of the arts, especially theater. After having grown so accustomed to playing a variety of characters in her theatrical journey, she struggled with identity. By having a passionate and zestful youth pastor placed into her life who relentlessly displayed an “all in” mentality with his faith, encouraged her to utilize her gifts for God’s kingdom. Through the hardships and experiences Sabrina faced from being labeled a misfit immigrant her younger years, has driven her closer to God and has compelled her to share the light of gospel truth through her poems.
Besides doing her poetry at venues, you can find Sabrina pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota.
