This past year I began planting the seed with our students of living THE Cause of Christ on their school campuses. Some students immediately gravitated to this idea and began sharing the Gospel and inviting their friends to church. Most students, however, have been a little slower to get on board as I’ve introduced this concept.
As our church prepared for our annual ECHO Week, a week in the summer in which we echo God’s love and grace throughout our community by participating in various service and ministry projects, I began exploring what it would look like to spend the week serving Science Hill High School.
All in all, we were able to serve SHHS through at least 10 different projects: trash pick up, weeding, washing windows, washing and cleaning out their Activity Buses, assembling Homeroom packets for the first week of school, stamping text books, sweeping and mopping classrooms, moving furniture, trimming shrubs, and laying down mulch.
There were 2 big wins that have come out of this week of service:
- Several our students are personally invested in their school in ways that they weren’t before
- I had the opportunity to begin strategic relationships with the schools administration, primarily the Principal and Athletic Director.
I want to encourage each of you to adopt your school and claim it for Christ. Check out Every Student Every School and adopt your campus through their website. Commit to praying for your campuses every week!
What are ways you are building relationships with the schools in your community? What are some ways that you serving those campuses? How are you blessing the socks of the staff and faculty of your schools?
