I believe the purpose behind raising up student leaders is to create Kingdom impact – to increase disciples who can, in turn, make more disciples.
Jesus did it. But hey, Jesus was God…He can do anything. The question is: How do YOU get started nurturing your student leaders into disciples who make disciples?
Keep Their Arrows Pointing Outward
When you read the book of Acts, you simply can’t miss it. Jesus’ disciples turned their world upside down! How? They kept their arrows pointing outward.
Though they faced a hostile spiritual culture, repeated pressures to cave, and an onslaught of trials and suffering, they were never content to simply hold on for dear life and survive. No matter the cost, no matter the challenges, they kept their arrows pointing outward and spread the message of the gospel.
They thrived spiritually and the gospel spread like wildfire because their discipleship was evangelism-focused.
Building a Disciple-Making Ministry
We all want to see our students making an impact for Christ. But too often, our ministry goals—even for our student leaders—get watered down to simply hoping our students hold on to their faith post-graduation.
I believe this is precisely the problem. Without a commitment to Jesus’ vision and cause of making disciples, our young people can easily shrug their shoulders and see following Jesus as simply a moral lifestyle option to dabble in or not.
