That once a year opportunity recently rolled around for me. You know, that rare opportunity we Youth Pastors get when we are called up to preach for the major leagues. That’s right. I had the opportunity to preach in “big church!” I very much look forward to and get excited at the prospect of preaching to our whole church congregation. I truly do view it as an honor and privilege to be trusted with the pulpit to deliver God’s truth.
I was tasked with preaching a stand alone sermon, not tied to one of our longer teaching series. I heeded the advice of our Staff Pastor who once told me in the context of planning a sermon for our church body, “Be the Dare 2 Share guy!” He basically gave me the green light and encouraged me to bluntly and blatantly preach on evangelism and to call our church to action in light of that theme.
The 2 key points from the passage I really leaned into are:
- The NEW LIFE we have in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17)
- The NEW MISSION we have from Christ (2 Cor. 5:18-19)
I also gave 2 action points for people to do in light of these truths, spelling out a few different ways to implement each of them:
- CELEBRATE your faith story with OTHER BELIEVERS
- SHARE your faith with THOSE IN NEED
