T-Pain and the Viral Gospel

Have you heard of William Cowper?  Probably not, but back in his day he was a very famous poet.  If he’d had Twitter followers, the numbers would have been in the millions – and one of his most famous tweets would have been this:

GOD moves in a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform.

Maybe you’ve heard this quote. In fact, many people make the mistake of thinking it’s actually a verse from the Bible.  Although it isn’t straight up Scripture, the concept behind it is spot-on.  Sometimes the way God works is beyond our understanding…

And sometimes it simply blows our minds.

There are many instances that I can recount which would support this sentiment, but recently there was a tweet from another poet that illustrates God’s mysterious ways vividly: “This is one of the most amazing pieces I’ve ever heard. Pls enjoy and RT this. The gospel in 4 minutes…”

The rapper known as T-Pain tweeted this out to almost a million followers, and “the most amazing pieces” to which he was referring is Dare 2 Share’s viral video called Life in 6 Words: The GOSPEL.  If you haven’t seen what T-Pain was so impressed with, check it out here.

Life is 6 Words is essentially a compilation of one of the world’s best spoken word artists (AKA “Propaganda”), a master videographer (Brad Sitton) and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Over the last 2 years it has been seen by over 2,000,000 viewers on a multitude of YouTube channels and has been shown in countless churches across the world. All of us were blown away by how God used this video to advance the gospel in ways we had never imagined, but even more beyond our imagination was the thought that a Grammy-winning artist would encourage his followers to check it out and retweet it!

God truly does work in a mysterious way!

Life in 6 Words is a visually stunning and crystal clear way of sharing the gospel with your friends, and one simple tweet from a world famous rapper may take it farther and wider than we could have ever imagined. T-Pain’s tweet is perfect example of how God sometimes uses the most unexpected channels to spread the gospel and further THE Cause of Christ.

This whole incident reminds me of Jesus’ illustration in Matthew 13 about how God’s Kingdom would advance over time.

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field.  It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches” (Matthew 13:31-32).

Think about it – the gospel message that can save every man, woman and child on the planet started as a radical message shared by 12 simple men.  It was a small seed, but 2000 years later is has changed all of history and transformed billions of lives.

And now it’s your turn to join the movement God started two millennia ago and is continuing today.

So how can you get involved?  Easy!

First, pray for T-Pain to wrestle through the message of Jesus so clearly articulated in the video.  T-Pain was raised in a Muslim family, but he married a Christ follower.  Perhaps the good news of grace has struck the same chord in his heart as it did in yours and mine when we realized that God created us to be with Him!

Also pray for his million or so Twitter followers. Pray that those who watched the video would be moved to further explore or embrace the message of Jesus as the way of salvation. Pray that the video link will continue to spread through social network. Within a day or so after T-Pain’s Tweet, it was reTweeted 1,200 times! Pray for God to open the door for many deeper spiritual conversations.

Finally, pray for opportunities to use this mysterious and amazing opportunity to share the gospel with your friends.  Whether you’re a teen or adult, send the www.lifein6words.com link to your friends right now or post it to your Twitter feed or your Facebook page to get the conversation going.

On some level, this video moved T-Pain. Do you believe that God can move your friends as well?

Why We Should All Be More Like Ned Flanders

It’s nearly unfathomable to me that a goofy, irreverent series that popped up in 1989 (and was highly criticized by much of Christianity) remains a pop culture force that now is near and dear to much of our nation! Of course, I am talking about the one and only animated series called The Simpsons. They’re
