“Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” -Matthew 4:19 (NIV)
This is Jesus calling His first two disciples, Peter and Andrew. It’s not a simple invitation to follow Him around for the rest of the day. He isn’t asking them to hang out with Him for a short stint before going back to their fishing business.
No, when Jesus called Peter and Andrew to follow Him, He was asking them to hand over their entire lives to Him… and “At once they left their nets and followed Him” (Matthew 4:20).
Even before they fully understood Jesus’ gospel message, Peter and Andrew were all-in.
Transforming Teens into Authentic Followers of Christ
In our day and age, sparking this kind of “all-in” faith in teens can be a serious struggle. Sure, most of our kids say they love Jesus, but do they know what it means to wholeheartedly follow Him like those first disciples (who were most likely teenagers themselves!)? Do they know how to live out Jesus’ call to be “fishers of men” and to share the gospel?
If we want our students passionately pursuing God and regularly sharing the gospel, then we need to intentionally inspire, equip and mobilize them—and that’s exactly the focus of Lead THE Cause 2019!
Check out this preview video about our FOLLOW theme for Lead THE Cause 2019.
