Our students have been introduced to Dare 2 Share’s Life in 6 Words recently. They were trained at the Dare 2 Share conference to share their faith using it and we are actively using the book as an evangelistic tool to get students sharing the Gospel and to having spiritual conversations with their friends. I wanted to keep leaning into the momentum we were experiencing that is tied to this great resource so I preached a sermon using the Life in 6 Words (God, Our, Sins, Paying, Everyone, Life) as a way to keep it fresh on the minds of our students. Our Student Ministry worship leader and I collaborated on some creative ideas to deliver this message and came up with an interactive art piece that developed throughout the sermon.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 36″ x 48″ plexiglass
- Sharpie poster paint marker
- 1 quart of white paint
- 1 quart of another paint (pick your favorite color)
- 2×4 frame or some way to mount the artwork (we used a wooden box, 2 pieces of truss, and 6 clamps)
- Life in 6 Words video
Here’s what we did:
I picked up the piece of clear plastic / plexiglass from our local hardware store (Lowe’s and Home Depot both carry it). If you have the resources I would recommend building a frame. We used a wooden box to set it on (about 4 feet high) and then clamped both sides of the plastic to 2 of our short stage trusses.
Ryan (our worship leader) began painting on the back side of the plastic in what looked to be a random pattern of lines as I taught through the outline: God, Our, Sins, Paying, Everyone, Life. As we had planned, the lines he painted preceded those words as I wrote them on the front side of the plastic. Just before we got to the final word, Life, we showed Dare 2 Share’s Life in 6 Words video performed by Propaganda. While the video played Ryan finished painting the back side of the plexiglass while I traced around the different rectangle lines from the front. It outlined the word LIFE, the final point of the message. We conclude with 2 invitations: one to respond to the Gospel (we had 1 student who trusted in Christ that morning), and another for students to use the Life in 6 Words book to pass on to their friends (we had 25 students sign up to use the resource)!
