What if I'm involved with a campus ministry that seems dead?

About one hundred years ago a very godly man named R.A. Torrey said these words, "I can give a prescription that will bring a revival to any church or community or any city on earth.

  1. Let a few Christians (they need not be many) get thoroughly right with God themselves. This is the prime essential. If this is not done, the rest I am to say will come to nothing.
  2. Let them bind themselves together in a prayer group to pray for revival until God opens the heavens and comes down.
  3. Let them put themselves at the disposal of God for him to use as he sees fit in winning others to Christ. That is all!

This is sure to bring a revival to any church or community (or campus). I have given this prescription around the world. It has been taken by many churches and many communities, and in no instance has it ever failed, and it cannot fail!"

If you are involved with a dead campus ministry you have two choices:

  1. Jump start it... or
  2. Leave it and start another one.

If you choose to jump start it, meet with the current leadership of the campus ministry and express your concerns about the lack of focus, direction and revival. Strategize with them about some ideas to bring it back to life. Pray with them for wisdom. Then go for it. Implement the changes that were brainstormed. Bring leadership where there is none. Bring excitement where there was none.

Remember the most exciting thing that can happen in a campus ministry is students coming to Christ! So whatever you do...reach out!

If you choose to leave the campus ministry, leave graciously and lovingly. Explain to the leaders that you are looking for something more outreach oriented. At that point you can either look for another campus ministry to be involved with or start one.
