I am home schooled. What am I supposed to do for outreach?
You must be much more intentional and creative when it comes to evangelism because you don't have the same strategic advantage as public school teens. They are surrounded day after day with lost teenagers. You are not. But you also have an advantage over public school students when it comes to outreach. You get to pick your "campus!" It may be your neighborhood, a nearby shopping mall, or a local public school. You get to choose your outreach target!
Here are some ideas if you are a home-schooler:
- Make sure that at least once a month you go out to share the gospel (local mall, nearby public school campus, etc.) with students from your youth group, interested friends or other home schooled students who are interested (get a list of other teens from your local home school association and begin making calls).
- You can still use the Prayer/Dare/Share Strategy if you have an outreach meeting (Christian concert, crusade, youth group event, etc.) to invite your unsaved friends to attend. The problem is that many home school students don't know a whole lot of non-Christian students. Oftentimes the best way for them to witness is through direct contact evangelism (in a mall or door-to-door).
- For follow-up get their info (name, address, phone number) and pass it on to your church (or a church in the immediate area). The church can assist them in growing in their faith by inviting them out to the church and plugging them into a new believer's class. But don't put it all on the church. You help them grow in their newfound faith in Jesus. Get them a Bible if they don't have one. If they are interested in participating in a Bible study ask your pastor or youth pastor for help.
There are many other ways that you can witness as a home schooler. Creativity is a must when it comes to reaching out as a home schooler to the lost around you. God desires to use you in a significant way to cross the line and reach out to those all around you who so desperately need Jesus.
