And then this one time, at Band Camp...oh wait - I mean this one time, in 2004, I found all these crazy clues on frozen ships and on the Declaration of Independence. I was chased by scary FBI guys, but I eventually found a National Treasure and bought a really cool Ferrari 360 Spider.
Oh wait again...that wasn't me - dang it! That was Nicolas Cage playing Benjamin Gates in National Treasure - and who of you out there didn't at least have a tiny bit of desire to hang out with Ben and his buddies as they jetted all over creation to decipher clues and get madly wealthy? Exactly!
Which is why even though there was originally no talk of a sequel, we now have a sequel indeed. All the characters are back for another never-a-dull-moment flick that will keep your heart pounding and your brain grinding to keep up with the fast paced and enjoyable plotline.
The plotline you ask? Well, I won't give away enough to spoil the treasure, but I want to highlight the overall storyline, because it parallels our storyline as well! In Book of Secrets, Ben's great-grandpappy has been accused of being in on the assassination of President Lincoln (that's the guy on the penny and the $5 bill) - so our hero sets out on another adventure to clear his family name and keep us entertained for 123 minutes.
Cue the conspiracy music for a minute, because I've uncovered a plot more dark and sinister than Hollywood could ever produce. I call it "The Guilt Factor"
DUM DUM DUM DAAAAAH!
The Guilt Factor (or G-Fact for short) is masterminded by the most evil and intelligent mastermind of all. His name is Satan, and he's been studying human beings and putting this plot together for thousands of years. He whispers in the ear of your soul that you are guilty and worthless. He tries to convince you that you are insignificant because of the wrong things you've done, and that God can never love you or forgive you.
Want proof? Sure - let's look in the Book that reveals his secrets.
Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens,
"It has come at last- salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth-the one who accuses them before our God day and night." (Revelation 12:10)
Let me crack the code on this verse for you. These words from the Book of Revelation paint a picture of the future that the author saw in a vision. It describes the fall of Satan, and here we learn that one of his titles is 'accuser'. In fact - the ancient Hebrew teachers gave this name to Satan because it describes so well one of his primary activities. In other words, the devil is big time into the G-Fact! If you're a Christian, right at this very moment he is accusing, blaming, criticizing, denouncing, and otherwise pointing the finger at you while he plays the History Channel DVD series called 'The Stupid Things I've Done' on the flat screen of your mind.
But now that we've uncovered the conspiracy of guilt that is ruining lives left and right, let me lead you to the cure to the conspiracy - which is the Truth. What you are about to read is not an opinion, but the very words of God that he wants you to use when the accusations come flying into your brain like the ultra-creepy monkeys from The Wizard of Oz:
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. (Romans 8:1-2)
Tattoo these words on your memory and download them into your heart:
No condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
None whatsoever. Not guilty. No judgment and no punishment for anyone who is trusting in Jesus Christ as his/her only hope of salvation. So while Satan points a finger our way, Jesus opens up His nail scarred hands to embrace us with forgiveness and acceptance.
So if you find yourself hearing the accuser read out of your 'book of secrets', remember that our hero - Jesus Christ - died on the cross and opened the door of salvation so we could clear our name and put a permanent end to the G-Fact.
I hope you treasure that!
Head: What you need to know about this truth
Christians are under no condemnation from God, so Satan's accusations of guilt are false and should be ignored.
Heart: What you need to feel about this truth
Forgiveness is more than a fact, it is a feeling. When you truly transfer the forgiveness reality from your head to your heart, you will feel more freedom and value than you ever thought possible!
Hands: What you need to do about this truth
Forgiveness comes with a responsibility - which is to forgive others. God doesn't condemn you, so why would you condemn anyone else? Take some time to make sure you aren't holding any grudges towards anyone.
