Who cares? Really. Who cares whether we evolved or were created or created while we evolved during evolutionary creation?

He does. He cares because He knows your beliefs about where people came from show your beliefs about a ton of other things. What things? Oh, just a few minor areas like what you believe about God, His Word, other people, and even yourself - and He definitely cares about that!

So yeah, this creation/evolution thing is definitely nothing to monkey around about.

Why do I believe in creation? Well, my answer might surprise you, but my faith in a literal six day creation of life, the universe and everything is not founded in any scientific evidence. Why? Well, as you might have figured out, it doesn't take the scientific method to figure out I am not a scientist. I've spent a ton of time and done a ton of reading into the scientific evidence on both sides of the issues, but when we start throwing around terms like carbon isotope ratio and homeotic mutation, they lose me at 'hello'.

I believe in creation because of my faith in Jesus Christ and His Word the Bible. Why can't I go with evolutionary theory and still maintain my faith? I'll give you two reasons that have evolved in my mind over time to form what I think is an intelligently designed argument.

Reason #1 - Jesus created everything

Here's what John wrote in his gospel:

He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn't make (John 1:3)

Here's what the Apostle Paul wrote:

Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see--kings, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:16)

Here's what the book of Hebrews states:

Through the Son he made the universe and everything in it (Hebrews 1:2)

Pretty simple. Jesus made everything. So...couldn't Jesus have used the process of evolution to make everything? Perhaps...but then we run into a problem when it comes to our next point:

Reason #2 - Jesus believed the writings of Moses

In John 5:45-47, Jesus is in a heated debate with some of the religious leaders of his day. One of His basic arguments revolves around the truthfulness of what Moses wrote in the Old Testament. Now to me, this is a clear indication that we really can't pick and choose what Moses was right and wrong about, and he happened to write this:

So God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them...This all happened on the sixth day. (Genesis 1:27; 31)

And the LORD God formed a man's body from the dust of the ground and breathed into it the breath of life. And the man became a living person. (Genesis 2:7)

What do you think these verses would have meant to the people to whom it was originally written? "Sure, Moses said this all happened in one day, but I'm sure that by 'day' he meant an unspecified but really really long period of time. And yes, Moses wrote that God formed a man's body, but by 'formed' he meant a specified and really really complicated process over millions of years...right?"

Wrong. The people in that day had enough faith in an all powerful Creator that they were *dumb* enough to believe He could actually do the whole creation thing in six days.

And so am I. Which is why I also believe what Paul wrote about the Christian life:

We live by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

And what the writer of Hebrews wrote:

By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God's command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. (Hebrews 11:3)

My faith in creation rests on my faith in God and what He told us in His Word. If the available scientific evidence contradicts what the inspired Bible indicates, my faith tells me the evidence is being interpreted incorrectly.

So who cares? You should. You should care that you are a special creation, not a random mutation. You should care that what the Bible says about science is accurate since it claims to be the Word of God. You should care that you have a soul, and it is going to end up in a really good place or a really bad place, depending on whether or not you trusted Christ.

And if you don't care about those things, what do you care about?

Head: What you need to know about this truth

The belief in a literal, six day creation rests on the truthfulness of the Bible as the inspired Word of God.

Heart: What you need to feel about this truth

Like I mentioned...you should care about this truth. It indicates and drives your basic answers to the most basic questions of life like "who am I? "where did I come from?" and "where am I going?" Evolution and Creationism have distinctly different answers with distinctly different implications for your life.

Hands: What you need to do about this truth

Yes, my faith in Creationism rests on my faith in the Bible...but no, I don't believe Creationism is bad science in any way, shape, or form. Check out www.answersingenesis.com for some informative and fascinating reading!
