Do you like polls, quizzes, and surveys? HA! I just polled, quizzed, and surveyed you! Last time I checked, surveys showed that most people like being surveyed. Especially with the popularity explosion of social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook - it seems that there's a survey for just about anything imaginable.

To list a few -

  • 105 Facts About You
  • 22 Ways To Make A Girl Smile
  • 5 Things You Can Do With A Brick (scary people put this one together)
  • Can Did Do Does Haves Hows Lasts Whats Whos
  • Cell Phone Survey (for folks who can actually break away from their phone long enough to take the survey)
  • Fill Dis Out
  • Geeks and Idiots (yes on both for me)
  • Heaven Or Hell
  • If You Could Change Your Name
  • Soundtrack To Your Life (mine is: I can't afford one)
  • Think Fast !!!
  • Weirdo Survey
  • Your Confessions

One of my favorites is one called "7 Deadly Sins." It basically has questions about your anger, pride, laziness, etc. that pretty much obliterate any good feeling you might have had about yourself before you took the survey.

Ah - but the one survey that is the ultimate survey didn't show up in the 'popular' category. It did, however, show up in a recent MSNBC poll where 90% of those asked one simple question indicated 'yes'. You need to ask yourself this question as well, because it is the most important question you could ever be asked.

Ready?

Do you believe in God?

What makes this question significant is the fact that your 'God' beliefs (or non-beliefs) form the foundation of your life. They indicate what you believe about the supernatural, why we are here on earth, where everything came from, how we determine right and wrong, and what happens when we die.

I'm assuming that because you are reading this, you probably believe in God. But the other critical question that flows out of your 'God' beliefs is this:

Which God do you believe in?

Believe it or not, there are really only two choices here. The 'God' created by humans, or the God who created humans.

The one created by humans goes by dozens - maybe even hundreds - of different names, but they all refer to a man made mental concept that has no more power over the universe and our lives than a pet rock. The Bible calls them 'false gods' because they are just that...false. Now in order to determine that something is false, we have to know what is true - right? That's why the God of the Bible is called the 'true' God (Jeremiah 10:10), because He truly exists. That's also why the God of the Bible has the name 'Yahweh '- which basically means the 'self-existent One'. He has no beginning or end, and He wasn't invented by some kooky religious group with an agenda.

OK, now we know which God is real, the key here is to find out more about the God we believe in - right? The great news is that it's no mystery. God has no problem letting us in on who he is and what he is like, so let's see how he would answer the '6 BIG facts about Me' survey:

I am love (I John 4:8, 16). Not the earthly kind that is fickle or temporary. I am true love defined.

I know everything (Psalm 139:-16).

I exist everywhere (Psalm 139:7).

I am all-powerful (Revelation 19:6). Side note: being all powerful is sort of important as far as being God, because if someone or something else were more powerful than Me, I wouldn't really be God!

I am perfect (Matthew 5:48).

I am holy (Isaiah 6:1-8). In other words, there is no fault in Me, nor will there ever be. I am completely separate from all creation, and I cannot sin.

I am many other things, but remember most of all that I am a Person. I think and feel. I experience every emotion you can think of, plus some that you probably can't. Because I am holy, I can't stand sin. It destroys my creation and the lives of my created ones. Because I am love, I have no other choice or desire but to seek the highest good for all that I have made - which is why I came to earth, lived a perfect life among you, died a horrible death because of you, and rose from the dead to save you (John 3:16).

Pretty amazing, wouldn't you say? We not only get to believe in this amazing God, but we can also know who He is and what He is like!

So I have one more question for you. If you believe in God and you know the important things about Him, how is this going to affect your life? Remember, even in the times when you doubt your belief in Him...He still believes in you.

Head: What you need to know about this truth

The God of the Bible is revealed as Yahweh - the self-existent One. All other gods are false and are a result of human invention.

Heart: What you need to feel about this truth

Can you feel the amazement at being able to know and follow the One true God of the universe? Feel burdened as well that there are those who, according to the Bible, are "living in darkness" (Matthew 4:15-17) and need to be shown the truth about the true God.

Hands: What you need to do about this truth

Getting to know the one true God is a lifetime journey that ends in meeting Him face to face! Spend time each day connecting with the true God, so you can live life the way it was truly designed to be.
