If I was just another dusty record on the shelf,
Will you blow me off and play me like everybody else?
                                                            — Stereo Hearts

This is an interesting question posed by Travie McCoy in Gym Class Heroes’ hit song Stereo Hearts.

God?s Stereo Heart! 3I’ve often wondered what it would be like to be an old school vinyl album, and after a deep thinking process, I’ve arrived at the following conclusions:

My life could be record setting.

I would tend to put a spin on everything.

I would turn the tables on everyone.

I’d have to keep track of everything.

I’d always have something up my sleeve.

And…

I’d sometimes feel like something is needling me.

And I would hope, of course, that if I got old and dusty and were left on a shelf, someone would remember the music I once brought to the world and give me another chance to let my songs change the entire outlook of someone in need of encouragement.

And that’s the message of Stereo Hearts, right?

Make me your radio,
Turn me up when you feel low.
This melody was meant for you,
Just sing along to my stereo.
                                    — Stereo Hearts

No doubt about it, music is the language of the heart, and lyrics open the window of the writer’s soul to reveal how they were feeling at a certain time in his or her life.  The power of well written and performed music is one of the most life changing forces on earth.

There have been a handful of songs that have pulled me out the pits of life in which I have often fallen, but there is no song in the universe that heartens me more than the music that streams from my heavenly Father:

For the Lord your God is living among you.
He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs”
(Zephaniah 3:17).

God?s Stereo Heart! 2When all the other negative songs about guilt, fear, and regret are playing in the background of our minds, we need to crank up the volume on the harmonies that remind us that the God of the universe is at this very moment rejoicing over us  with songs of joy!

Just meditate on that for a moment.  Our Father looks down on us, and in His infinite love and compassion He is so filled with joy that He bursts into singing!

God’s heart is truly a stereo.
It beats for you, so listen close,
Hear His thoughts in every note.

And what are those thoughts?  Here’s just a sampling of the lyrics that accompany of melody of mercy written just for you:

I will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

"I've never quit loving you and never will.
Expect love, love, and more love!
(Jeremiah 31:3).

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27).

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened (Matthew 7:7-8).

My thoughts toward you are countless as the sand on the seashore
(Psalms 139:17-18).

This is the music that has literally saved my life and my sanity on more than one occasion.  And the best part is, God’s playlist never runs out, because it flows from His infinite stereo heart!

I think finally found a note to make you understand.
If you can hear it, sing along and take me by the hands,
Keep myself inside your head, like your favorite tune,
And know my heart is a stereo that only plays for you.

PRAYFather, thank You that You rejoice over me with songs of joy!  I pray that the music that you pour over me would be heard by those around me who have lost the joy in their lives.  Let my life and words be living speakers to the testimony of Your grace.
