Bye Bye Big Dipper!

Bye Bye Big Dipper!

Have you heard about the million year forecast for Planet Earth? A man named Steven Dutch of the University of Wisconsin has one of the coolest jobs in the world...he gets to study and predict what on earth is going to happen on earth, not over the next few weeks or months, or even over the next few years, but over 1,000 x 1,000 years! (That's 1,000,000 for those of you who are math challenged.)

Here are some of his predictions:

  • Our friends in the San Francisco area will experience around 7000 earthquakes - so you guys better get out quick - that million years can sneak up you!
  • Hawaii will move about 60 miles northwest - so aloha to its current location.
  • There will be hundreds of meteor impacts and most likely one huge one that has been the basis of "bye bye Earth" type movies. Dutch also said that even the Milky Way galaxy will shift, causing familiar constellations to change. I don't know about you, but I'm really going to miss the Big Dipper.

So all this million year prediction stuff inspired me to make a million year prediction. Ready?

In a million years there will be no more arguments about which religion is right. Think about it...no more "my God can beat up your God" conversations...no more positioning, pandering, or political power plays in the name of 'religion'. In a million years everyone will be on the exact same page - and the page looks like this:

"At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:10-11)

So actually this is not a prediction based on theories and cool scientific stuff, this is a picture of the future based on the truth of God's word. There will be a day in a not too distant time frame where every man, woman, and child on earth, in heaven, and yes even in hell will acknowledge that Jesus is Lord...and since Jesus is Lord, everyone else is wrong, because every other religion claims that He isn't.

Sorry my BuddhistHinduJudaismandeveryotherrelgion friends, but He is. He said so Himself:

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)

Perhaps I'm missing something, but this statement seems fairly clear... the way as opposed to a way, the truth as opposed to a truth, and when He proclaims that "no one" gets to the Father (i.e. heaven) except through Him, you can pretty much wrap that discussion up.

And it's not like Jesus wasn't open to other ways to heaven...I would be too if I were facing torture and death! Remember what Jesus prayed in the Garden the night He was arrested?

"My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." (Matthew 26:39)

The "cup" He is talking about is the suffering He was about to go through. Jesus is asking His Father if there is any other way for heaven to be opened up for people besides His crucifixion and death.

But there wasn't any other way, so Jesus gave His life so we could have eternal life. If there were or are other ways to get into heaven, do you think God would allow His Son to go through that? Absolutely not! Which is why the religious claims of the religiously religious are ridiculously wrong.

Oh, and one other thing...Jesus came back from the dead to show the world that He was telling the truth about being the only way. The fact of the empty tomb makes the claims of other religions sound about as empty as...well, an empty tomb.

So don't be fooled by the "many roads lead to God" claim. It's wrong now and it will be wrong in a million years...

And that's more than a prediction...that's a fact.

Head: What you need to know about this truth

Jesus claimed to be the only way to heaven and proved it by coming back from the dead, which is why one day every man, woman, and child will bow before Him and claim that He is Lord.

Heart: What you need to feel about this truth

Warning! Warning! Those who hold correct beliefs about Jesus are in danger of looking down on and judging those who hold incorrect beliefs. If you look closely at the life of Jesus, one of the things that attracted people to Him was His amazing compassion for all people, whether they believed in Him or not. When you think of Buddhists, Hindus, and the billions of others from different religions, you heart should break and your prayers should break out on their behalf.

Hands: What you need to do about this truth

If you were wrong about something that you believed, would you want to know? Of course! Especially if it concerned your final and eternal destiny. We have been given an amazing gift of believing the truth, which makes us responsible then to help others who are in error. The best way to do that is to learn all about where they are coming from - otherwise they probably won't listen to you. This week, take some time and check out our Top Ten section on other religions/belief systems.
