How to share your faith using Say What You Need to Say

I have a friend whose grandma is almost 97 years old. She is a wonderful person, a very caring and giving lady. You can tell when you see her that she has a life full of stories to share. There is one story, however, that Grandma cannot share, that is the story of when she received Christ as her Savior. You see, Grandma is not a Christian. She is a devout Jehovah Witness. My friend and I have had several discussions over the last couple of years about Grandma. As wonderful as she is, when she dies, she will spend eternity without God, in hell, unless... someone "says what they need to say".

The popular song, Say what You Need to Say, by John Mayer gives us a great opportunity to reflect on what needs to be said to those around us and encourages us to leave nothing left unsaid.

Have no fear for giving in.
Have no fear for giving over.
You'd better know that in the end.
Its better to say too much,
Then never say what you need to say again.

It is better sometimes to say too much than to not say anything at all. Time is not always our friend; we just never know when something will be left unsaid for all of eternity. Think for a moment of that one person you love deeply that needs Christ. Why haven't you shared?

  • Looking for the right time?
  • Looking for the right words?
  • Scared of rejection?

Think for a moment of what would go through your mind if you didn't share, and suddenly their life ended? All of a sudden, every time you were with them would have been the right time, and any words would have been the right words.  The Bible is clear on this topic:

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. (Hebrews 9:27-28).

All man is appointed once to die; there is no "do-overs".  There are those who believe that the way they live their life is testimony enough. I have never met anyone who came to Christ because someone in their life was a good person. Eventually we have to SPEAK the good news.

For, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."  How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! (Romans 10:13-15).

It is the power words of the GOSPEL coming from your mouth that could lead someone to Jesus. So I encourage you as the song says to, "Say what you need to say"! Try using this song this week to Bring God up in conversation with those around you.

  • Listen to the song with your friends, what do they like about the song?
  • Ask your friends if they have ever left something unsaid and regretted it? Listen to their answer and share with them what you need to say.
  • The song comes from the movie, The Bucket List. What do they think life after death is like?  Share with them what you believe.

Use the song this week to share your faith, but even more, use the song this week to motivate you to leave nothing left unsaid, "say what you need to say".  Pray for my friend that he will continue to say what needs to say to Grandma before it is too late!

No regrets!
