How to Share Your Faith Using Lady in the Water
Lady In the Water, the latest movie from the director of The Sixth Sense (Shyamalan), explores the life in another dimension. It's an eerie, frightening other dimension, filled with danger and mystery.
Cleveland Heep, a humble building manager, rescues a mysterious 'lady in the water' from the swimming pool of his building. With time, Heep realizes the woman is a narf (nymph) named Story from another dimension - a bedtime story dimension! Sounds like a cross between Peter Pan and the Little Mermaid, doesn't it? Cleveland and his fellow humans discover they are players in this wild bedtime story that unfolds as Story is tasked with trying to 'save' mankind by positively influencing the 'human vessels' around her.
Story the narf is definitely the product of an over-active creative mind in search of an entertaining way to depict an over-the-top, wacko supernatural dimension. But in an odd way, Lady in the Water ' s focus on a battle between good and evil in another dimension beyond the seen physical reality tugs at something in the human psyche. The apostle Paul speaks to the truth of an unseen spiritual reality in Ephesians 6:12
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
Most people acknowledge belief in an unseen spiritual dimension to life, so the movie provides a great opportunity to initiate spiritual conversations and explore spiritual beliefs with your unreached friends. Try some of these conversation starters to get the spiritual dialogue moving:
- Find out if your friends believe there is an unseen 'other dimension' to life - a spiritual dimension. Ask them if they believe in God. Share what you believe.
- One character in the movie comments, "She's come to save us..." Ask your friends what they think of the Christian belief that Jesus came to save us. Share what you believe.
- Another character in the movie asks, "Does man deserve to be saved?" Ask your friends this question. Do they think humans are in need of being saved? This may lead to a discussion of why there is evil in the world. Share what you believe. For help with this, check out the Soul Fuel article Evil: Blame It On God?
- Does God use 'human vessels' to bring about positive change in the world? Do you believe He is at work superintending the events of our lives?
Take the opportunity to use Lady In the Water and be a positive influence in your world. Turn the conversation toward God and introduce your friends to the REAL other dimension!
