Six Flags Adventures (a real-life outreach story)

Six Flags Adventures (a real-life outreach story)

It’s always awesome to hear stories of real-life youth groups putting the evangelism principles we harp on all the time into practice, especially when they get creative!

This small youth group from Middlebury, Indiana took their summer Six Flags trip and harnessed it to advance THE Cause of Christ! These kids will never be the same, and that’s not just because they ate the amusement park hot dogs. They actively engaged strangers with the greatest news in the world, so I don’t think Six Flags Great America will ever be the same either.

Here is the note we got from the youth pastor about their trip:

“I want to pass along something we did this weekend; a little story about where we are with the Dare 2 Share ministry model.  We designed our own GOSPEL wristbands, making white bands with red letters spelling out “G.O.S.P.E.L.” on the outside and then inside the band we have the words, “God, Our, Sins, Paying, Everyone, Life”.  We purchased 1100 of these wristbands to give away at an outreach at Six Flags Great America in Chicago.

This past weekend, we drove to Six Flags and on Saturday we dove in to the outreach. The kids were great!  It started slow, but they ended up giving out over 300 wristbands and sharing the GOSPEL with so many people. By the end of the day they were so excited about sharing, they had me stopping at travel plazas along the toll road to share with people in the parking lot.  I am encouraged by their efforts because they are such a small group!  We had 8 youth and 4 leaders on this trip; with mostly the 8 youth doing the outreach!

This is what this is all about!

We are already planning our next outreach!  We will be modifying the wristbands to read, “www.GOSPELjourney.com“.  The kids will then be able to walk people through the GOSPEL and then the recipients will have a reference to go to after the contact is over.  We are not entirely certain where the next event will take place; but I can say the kids are excited to keep the effort moving forward!”

Pretty cool, huh? Way to go guys!

Just like Paul reminds us, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:9

In my opinion, experiences like this do so much to shape and galvanize a student’s faith. Although it doesn’t place the focus on personal, relationship evangelism, which is much more effective, it gives an opportunity for the students to explain their own faith and rely on God in ways that they may have never done before. Good stuff.

We want to hear if you have done something like the group above!  Or, do you have an idea you want to share?  Respond below.
