Out of the ashes of Aurora

I just wanted to pass along some great blog posts and an awesome video that does a great job of pointing people to Jesus in the midst of the Aurora shooting.  I was a high school junior right down the street from Columbine (I didn’t go to Columbine), and through this tragedy and these posts specifically, I am reminded of how God uses these times of tragedy to bring people to hope ONLY found in Christ.  These blogs are from people who were either in the theater or close to someone that was.

  1. A blog post from a mother who took her two daughters to see the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises and was in the theater where 12 others died.  Her perspective reminds me of the attitude I should have, which is daily gratitude for every moment that God gives me breath and the ability and grace to live for Him.  Check it out here.
  2. Another blog post from a local church leader who helped in the recovery by offering his support to a 22 year old woman named Petra Anderson who was shot, underwent major surgery, and miraculously lived through it all.  I won’t spoil the story, but suffice it to say that God has a plan for all of us, and as the Bible says, “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).  God definitely has plans for Petra.  Check out the blog here.
  3. A great video from Jordan T. Murphy, a college student at the University of Colorado who was sitting in the third row and tells of barely avoiding a bullet while fleeing the theater.    In the video, he says, “Everything I have accomplished in this life, whether its athletics, making friends…what I’ve done.  It doesn’t matter.  They’re all petty things compared to Christ and the only thing that matters at the end of the day if that bullet hit me…is what I did for Him.  At judgment day, all those things are vanity compared to that”

Jesus Christ is TRUE HOPE for those in the stories above, and He is hope for you (and me) as well. To help tell others of Jesus’ love in the midst of this tragedy, share the links to the blogs /video above, or check out the Dark Knight talking points or the “Aurora Aftermath” Soul Fuel.

How have you seen God work in this time of tragedy?  What have you seen come out of the ashes?
